Vacation

2007.08.31 - Friday

Yesterday I got back from a two week vacation in Greece. It was amazing. I don't head back to work until Tuesday, so it's great to have some time to get my hours back in sync, as well as to catch up on chores. I've got a ton of pictures to go through and organize. I started some of it this morning but there's quite a lot left.

I also picked up a copy of "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption" for the Wii, which should be a lot of fun over the weekend. Certainly a good way to relax. Long vacations are always hard to come back from. Everyday life seems so mundane and uninteresting.

Fireworks

2007.08.06 - Monday

This past Saturday was the finale of the "Celebration of Light" fireworks competition held every year here in Vancouver. I didn't quite hear who won, but I think it was Canada, which came as a surprise to me. I saw China's display last Wednesday and it was pretty good. I've never been to all four shows in one year, which I would like to do someday, but I got out to two of them this time which isn't bad. I walked over to the downtown side of English Bay for the finale and brought along this new Canon SD1000 camera I had picked up earlier in the afternoon. I don't usually bother with pictures of fireworks, but it was worth a shot. Some of them turned out okay. The finale is always a great night because all three competing teams do a seven minute show, so there's a good variety. It's all followed up with a 5 minute or so ending where they seem to fire nothing but the biggest, shiniest fireworks available at a crazy rate. Always one of the highlights of summer in Vancouver!

Gallery Update

2007.08.02 - Thursday

At last, after a four month wait I have updated the gallery with the work we did on "Babylon 5: The Lost Tales". Apart from a few shots that I still think could have used more time, the show turned out reasonably well. I picked up a copy at Best Buy on Tuesday and watched it that night, pleased to see that they didn't do too much colour timing work, although some of the live action could have used it. One shot seemed to be brightened, which didn't help the comp, but what can you do?

Now we wait to see what happens. Will the disc sell well enough for Warner Brothers to green light another? I certainly hope so, and I hope we get to work on it if that happens. For now, there's nothing to be done.
