Merry Christmas

2004.12.25

Merry Christmas everyone! Okay, it's not actually Christmas morning as I write this, but it is Christmas eve, so close enough. Just five minutes ago I finally finished Half-Life 2, over a month after first starting it. The game isn't that hard, it's just been a very busy couple of months with huge amount of Battlestar Galactica work. It's all done now, thankfully, I don't have to go back to the office for 10 days or so! Amazing!

So, Half-Life 2. What kind of a fucking ending was that?!?!? I mean seriously, the game cuts out at the very peak of the climax. A huge alien device is literally blowing up in your face and it freezes. The explosion freezes in time and everything, you get a talk from G-Man that completely confuses you, and that's it. It was AWESOME!!!! I'm getting the impression that once all of the Half-Life games have been made, you'll be able to play them back to back and it'll make a huge story, almost as if each game is a level. I don't know if that's intentional, or if they just couldn't think of an ending, but the only way this could be disappointing is if there's no Half-Life 3. I would consider that a crime.

So yeah, Half-Life 2 is probably the best first person shooter ever made. It's an amazing experience. Now I can go take the shrink wrap of my copy of Metroid Prime 2. Does it get any better?
